About
Dr Alessandro Bruno is a medical doctor specialising in psychiatry. He works as a consultant psychiatrist and medical lead at Priory Hospital Marlow (a specialist eating disorders unit) as well as practising privately in his outpatient clinic. Dr Bruno trained in medicine and psychiatry in Italy where he held a consultant position in general adult psychiatry and community-based rehabilitation.
Dr Bruno treats psychological conditions and mental illnesses with a comprehensive approach. He uses his experience and expertise in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy to help patients. Dr Bruno aims to create a partnership with his clients and a safe environment to explore and develop insightful understanding, which might help relieve psychological difficulties and bring comfort to patients’ lives.
Dr Bruno sees patients from 17 years old.
His areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), personality disorders, psychosis and bipolar disorder, and he has a special interest in diagnosing and treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and eating disorders, as well as physical co-morbidities that often occur in several mental health conditions.
Through empathy, patience, active listening and diligent research, Dr Bruno believes his patients’ desired goals can be achieved. Accurate diagnosis is paramount in psychiatry, and this requires adequate time, in order to develop rapport and understanding.
Position at Priory
Dr Bruno joined Priory in September 2020. He worked at Arthur House in Wimbledon and is currently the consultant psychiatrist, responsible clinician and medical lead at Priory Hospital Marlow.
He joined Priory Wellbeing Centre Oxford in September 2023 following extensive experience in other private outpatient clinics in London and Oxford.
Training
Dr Bruno gradated in Medicine and Surgery from the Università Degli Studi di Palermo in Italy.
He then completed his specialist training in Psychiatry at the Specialty School of Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry and Neurology, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Università Degli Studi di Palermo, Italy. During his training, he worked in partnership with the Genetics and Psychosis Group (GAP) at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London.
He is a Specialist Associate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a section 12 approved doctor.
Dr Bruno attended training in ADHD at the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN)
Research interests
Dr Bruno developed an interest in areas related to the psycho-biological factors and the vulnerability to psychosis in consumers of cannabis. He previously joined the GAP at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College and the Sicilian Genetics and Psychosis Group (SGAP) at the Specialty School of Psychiatry in Palermo (Italy).
