Dr Anja Muehlschlegel is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist with over 25 years of experience. Dr Muehlschlegel completed her undergraduate training in Berlin, at one of Germany’s leading medical schools. She then pursued her specialist training at the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, and St George’s and Guys and St Thomas Higher Training schemes in London. She has worked for over 17 years in NHS child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), generic mental health and eating disorders, where she has held leadership positions. As the consultant/clinical lead for an adolescent psychiatric inpatient service in Luxembourg, she has gathered extensive experience in working with diverse young people and their families in an inpatient setting.
Dr Muehlschlegel is experienced in helping young people with various mental health difficulties such as low mood, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.
She is trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) enhanced CBT (CBT-E), multifamily therapy for eating disorders, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), and psychodynamic therapies, and has received intensive training in dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). In addition to these psychotherapeutic modalities, Dr Muehlschlegel has completed the clinical certificate offered by the British Association for Psychopharmacology (BAP) and has vast experience with prescribing in under 18s.
Dr Muehlschlegel is particularly versed in combining psychological and pharmacological approaches to treatment and trying psychological treatments first, wherever possible.
Dr Muehlschlegel also has extensive experience with neurodevelopmental assessments for ADHD and autism.
