Henry Coombes is a fully qualified cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) therapist, trained in a schema informed approach to CBT. He is an accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Henry can help with a range of mental health conditions in adults. He specialises in treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety related disorders. Henry is particularly interested in helping people with OCD and PTSD to recover from intense negative, repetitive and intrusive thoughts, all of which can cause extreme distress and significantly interfere with their lives.
Henry uses a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including CBT, schema informed CBT, compassion focused therapy, (CFT) and Mindfulness. He works in collaboration with his clients, creating a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to deliver individual therapy treatment plans. He participates regularly in continuing professional development to broaden his knowledge and skills from the latest research, for the benefit of all his clients. Henry is currently an eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapist in training.
Henry has a background as an award-winning artist film maker and 20 years’ experience bringing visual arts into a wide range of care settings, including hospitals, hospices, youth projects and prisons in Scotland. Henry has a strong belief that creativity is vitally important to mental wellbeing and he can help clients to articulate their personal creative expression in order to raise their self-awareness and empower the change and recovery they are seeking.
