About
I have been working in the voluntary, statutory and private sector, in psychological services, since 1996. My aim is to ensure that clients feel comfortable and safe in the therapeutic environment, so a trusting relationship can be formed. Regardless of the psychological difficulties a client faces, I believe they should experience an individual idiosyncratic approach to the health care needs they have.
Clients do not always fit into a specific treatment ‘protocol’ so my approach is to develop a treatment plan that meets the specific goals of the individual.
For 10 years, I have been a senior lecturer on the subject of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) whilst assisting in the development of the Advanced Practice PGDip Course on CBT at the University of Cumbria. I continue to provide on-going honorary lecturing when needed.
From 2018 I was an external examiner for three years for The University of Teesside. Subjects included Masters in CBT/Complexity and dual diagnosis/personality disorders in mental health difficulties.
I currently have my own private practice and also supervise clinicians working in this field. I facilitate trauma programmes with Cumbria Police and will provide consultations in the development of their treatment programmes.
I work with both children and adults and will see people on an individual basis, or as couples or families. I also have extensive experience treating various mental health difficulties but in particular my area of expertise is working with trauma.
Main subject/interest areas:
- Anxiety and mood disorders eg: depression, general anxiety, SAD, panic, phobias, OCD, PTSD, illness anxiety
- Relationship difficulties
- Psycho-sexual therapies
- Addictions
- Neurodiversity difficulties
- Wiser mind resilience training
- Coaching/resilience/emotional intelligence
- Trauma/working with complexity
- All the above are areas in which I continue to develop within my professional development
