Beverley's story
Read about Beverley*, who was supported in her transition to The Lodge, from a placement that wasn't fulfilling her needs.
Beverley* has a learning disability and also suffers with schizoaffective disorder. She moved to The Lodge having been previously placed in an elderly care home for people in their 50s, which was not suitable for her needs.
During the transition and admission, the team built robust care plans to ensure her anxiety and emotions continued to be supported.

Beverley longed to be around younger people, and those with similar interests to herself. It was also clear she needed greater freedoms, and the support to navigate this. The team at The Lodge ensured Beverley was very much involved in her move to this Priory residential service, along with her mum and social worker.
Upon admission, she was supported to decorate her room as she wished; she was very happy with her choice of pink unicorn wallpaper. Beverley was anxious at first, but with the support of the team, and making positive relationships with other residents, she soon became more confident in making day-today choices, and doing things like making a cup of tea independently.
Other activities Beverley was encouraged to take part in included:
During the transition and admission, the team built robust care plans to ensure her anxiety and emotions continued to be supported, and there was also a focus on healthy living and helping Beverley lose weight.
Beverley states: “I like going out for meals, bowling, clothes shopping, knitting, watching TV, making pom poms, and having my make-up, hair and nails done. I enjoy the company of the staff here and they are a pleasure to talk to.
“I feel safe here. I was involved with moving here and I had good first impressions. My mum likes it, and comes to visit me once a fortnight; she knows I’m being well looked after.
“I hope to continue to lose weight and I am now planning my holiday to Devon.”
Our senior support worker also said: “She is a very happy and settled lady. She has recently had input from a health coach, she’s engaged really well, and is happy with her progress.”
