Now on a path to recovery, he is regaining independence and hope for the future. Our expert team provides personalised rehabilitation for individuals with complex mental health needs, helping them achieve long-term stability and improved wellbeing.
Jay was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder with periods of mania. He experienced multiple acute mental health admissions over many years. Each time he was discharged, he deteriorated rapidly, struggling to understand the need for ongoing treatment and engagement to help him live his best life.
"Life has changed for my health and wellbeing since I came to you. Thank you for the life-changing results, the care, and the compassion you give to help people when they are at their most fragile. You have shown me that it is possible to overcome adversity, as the body cannot function without the mind. When the mind is feeble, there is no hope for a life to be lived.
Without this service, I would not be on the path to getting my life back. This is because you have cared for me and nurtured me back to better health."
At Priory Hospital Hemel Hempstead, we provide safe recovery and rehabilitation services for those with long-term and enduring mental health conditions. Many individuals have complex, high-risk histories, limited community support, and poor social networks.
Our aim is to nurture and support people in our care to live their best life through a range of therapeutic interventions. These are delivered by our multidisciplinary team, which includes occupational therapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, physical healthcare nurses, and an experienced medical and mental health nursing team.
We work closely with integrated care boards (ICBs) and local mental health teams to provide treatment, support transitions back to community services, and develop individualised resettlement plans at a pace suited to each person’s needs.
