About this location

Priory Hospital Ticehurst House's Highlands Unit is a nine-bedded acute mental health unit, providing person-centred assessment, treatment and support for adults.

Highlands is situated in a character building, within our extensive main grounds, in the beautiful East Sussex countryside. We accept patients with a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, stress and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Mental health treatment

Residential mental health treatment at Ticehurst House takes place in our Highlands Unit, a dedicated nine-bedded ward designed within a character building and nestled in beautiful surroundings.

As a mental health patient at Ticehurst House, you’ll benefit from:

  • A treatment and therapy programme designed to meet your needs
  • 24-hour support from nursing staff
  • Regular multidisciplinary meetings, led by your consultant psychiatrist, with representatives from the clinical and therapy teams
  • Medication reviews and changes (if required)
  • 1:1 key working sessions with your allocated staff member
  • Focused weekly 1:1 therapy sessions with a member of the therapy team
  • Daily group sessions using a range of therapy types
  • Sessions focusing on healthy body and mind integration, including yoga, Tai Chi and mindfulness
  • Fitness sessions with an instructor in our on-site gym
  • Opportunities for group recreational activities, such as creative writing, arts and crafts and games/quiz nights
  • Walks within our beautiful grounds

As well as inpatient treatment, we can also deliver outpatient mental health treatment to adults and young people.

Will I get my own bedroom?

If you're receiving inpatient treatment for any condition, you'll have your own en-suite bedroom. 

Bedrooms include a TV, DVD player, a small safety deposit box and a nurse call button. 

We also have regular housekeeping. 

How do mealtimes work?

During your stay, we'll provide you with all of the meals you need.

Mealtimes are:

  • Breakfast - 8.15am to 9.15am
  • Lunch - 12.15pm to 1.15pm
  • Dinner - 5.15pm to 6.15pm

Outside of these times, there are biscuits, toast and fresh fruit available. There are also hot and cold drinks available throughout your stay. We are able to cater for all dietary needs/allergies; please inform staff on arrival.

Are visitors allowed?

During your treatment programme, we'll encourage you to keep in touch with loved ones (your family and friends). We request that you have visitors outside of your programme and mealtimes, to assist recovery. If you inform staff prior to visits, they will ensure that this is accommodated.

How much does treatment cost?

There are two ways you can pay to receive expert treatment at Priory Hospital Ticehurst House:

  1. Self-paying – this means that you pay for your treatment yourself
