About this location
Located in Edmonton, North London, Priory Hospital Enfield offers acute and secure services for adult males and females. We have two medium secure wards, one low secure and one acute ward.
We offer specialist mental health care to people who are unwell and are considered to be unable to look after themselves in the community. We offer specialist assessment, treatment and care to patients with severe mental illness, complex needs and people who require an environment with security and safety.
Priory’s acute and PICU services aim to allow more people to be treated closer to home and we support the NHS to repatriate out-of-area patients back to local areas.

Information for family and friends
How do home visits work?
We support everyone staying with us to access home visits in line with their therapy and progression pathway. Where a home visit is not possible, we do all we can to support contact by other means with family and loved ones.
What is your visitation policy?
We ask that visits are booked in advanced in order for necessary checks to be made, if needed. For all visits, we ask that you bring photographic ID with you, so reception can complete their checks.
Will I be involved and kept up to date with my loved one’s care and wellbeing?
Yes, we aim to keep everyone involved in the care of their loved ones. You are welcome to join the team for ward rounds and professional meetings, as long as we have consent from your loved one.
Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?
People staying with us have access to phones on the ward, and can also have their own mobile phones. If they don't have a mobile phone, they can use the ward phone whenever they would like to. We will make sure your loved one has access to a private space to make the phone call.
What type of things are families expected to provide, and what is provided by the home?
We provide all food, furnishings, bedding and towels on-site and encourage patients to personalise their space if they would like to.
What are the bedrooms like?
All of our bedrooms are furnished, and people are supported to personalise them to suit their needs and wishes. However, our bedroom furniture is fitted to the floor for security purposes, so nothing can be removed from the bedrooms.
Are external doors kept locked?
Do to the nature of our service, all of our doors are locked. Access to the wards is via reception, which is staffed 24 hours a day.
What do service users eat and how do meal times work?
We have an on-site catering team who prepare and provide three meals per day. Snacks are available outside of these mealtimes. There is always a choice of meals for patients and we make sure we cater for all dietary requirements, including vegan, kosher and halal. We have a dietitian who visits once per month, who works with our catering team. Our dietitian will also meet with everyone staying with us for a one-to-one session, to educate them about the benefits of healthy eating.
How does laundry work?
All wards have laundry facilities, and we encourage people staying with us to manage their own laundry. Staff can support them if help is needed.
Is there anything they can’t bring or have?
We have a banned and restricted items policy, which is regularly reviewed and updated in order to keep everyone safe on the ward. This can be seen on request. Banned items are not permitted on the ward under any circumstances. Restricted items may be allowed if your loved one’s MDT agree.

If they do have unescorted community leave, they can buy their own cigarettes and store them in reception when they return from leave. We also offer a smoking cessation service.
How is treatment accessed and funded?
We don’t take referrals directly from individuals and families. Instead, the first step will be for you to reach out to the person’s GP so that they can be referred and funded through the correct NHS channel. Please note, referrals for NHS or local authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
