About this location
Located just outside Stroud town centre in Gloucestershire, The Lighthouse is a 5-bedded transitional recovery service for females over the age of 13. This provision is part of Priory’s transitional living services for young people and young adults, offering individuals the best possible care in their recovery journey.
The Lighthouse is a large detached house, which offers a viable alternative to a hospital or secure setting. It achieves this through a high ratio of care, which enables a robust and proactive approach to risk management, whilst supporting people to engage with meaningful activity in the community.

Treatment approaches
The Lighthouse is a home for children and young people with complex mental health and risk taking behaviours. Our model encompasses a trauma-informed approach to care. Trauma-informed care is based on knowledge and understanding of how trauma affects people’s lives and their care needs. This approach encompasses the young people in our care, their family and our team.
The benefits of trauma-informed care are:
- Young person feels safer
- Actively avoids re-traumatisation
- Empowers the young person – they feel in control
- Validates experiences
PACE: Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy
Our team strive to use PACE as a trauma-informed approach. This focuses on the way that the caregiver interacts with the young person.
Training, and ongoing discussions in supervision and team meetings, aim to facilitate a robust awareness and consistency of this approach. Our key aim at The Lighthouse is to reduce risks for the people we support, and enable a successful transition into semi-independent living, wherever possible.
Children and young people can stay at The Lighthouse until their 19th birthday. Our assessment and treatment options are overseen by a full and diverse multidisciplinary team (MDT).
