Help for a child (under 18)

If you're worried about your child’s mental health or difficulties around food, we understand how overwhelming this can feel. Taking the first step can be daunting, but you’re not alone. Priory’s young people’s services, also known as child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), can help.

Call us on 0330 056 6020 and our experienced team will ask you a few questions about your child so we can understand their needs. Based on this conversation, we’ll recommend the best next step for them.

As a parent or carer, you can arrange an initial appointment on your child’s behalf. This will be one of the following:

  • Private CAMHS assessment
  • Appointment with a consultant psychiatrist (please note, your child will need a GP referral for this)
  • Private autism assessment

During these sessions, we’ll typically meet with both you and your child. We’ll speak with you together and separately to gain a full understanding of their needs from both perspectives. From here, we’ll ensure your child gets fast access to the most effective private CAMHS support for their needs.

As a parent or carer, we want to reassure you that your child will receive expert, compassionate care while they’re with us. One-to-one therapy will provide a secure space for them to explore their feelings. While therapy sessions are usually just between them and their specialist, you may be invited to join, if this is considered beneficial to them.

If your child is in residential treatment with us, our clinical team will fully support them throughout their stay. We’ll keep you involved with regular updates, family sessions and scheduled visits, ensuring you’re part of their recovery journey.

If you have any questions about your involvement in your child’s care, at any stage of their journey, we’re always happy to talk it through with you and explain what you can expect – just give us a call.

Payment and funding

If you’re looking for support for yourself or a loved one, we know that paying for treatment is a significant factor to consider. That’s why we offer a number of funding options to make accessing care as straightforward as possible.

You can pay for treatment in two main ways:

  • Self-funding – which means you pay for treatment yourself
  • Private medical insurance (PMI) – which means that treatment is covered by a PMI policy, if applicable. Please check with your insurer to confirm that your policy covers the specific treatment you need, and whether they need a GP referral or excess payment before you can start treatment

If you have any questions or would like to know more about the options available to you, don’t hesitate to contact our friendly team on 0330 056 6041. We’re here to help you.

Mental health online tests

If you’d like more insight into what you, your loved one, or your child may be experiencing, our free online mental health tests can help. These quick, confidential and easy-to-use tools provide immediate feedback on whether you or someone you care about may be showing signs of mental health challenges, addiction or autism.

While they’re not a diagnosis, they can be a helpful first step in understanding symptoms and exploring whether further support might be helpful. If you have any questions on these tests or your results, call us on 0330 056 6020 – we’re always here to help.
