Taking the first step towards getting better is an incredibly brave thing to do. You really don’t have to struggle with an addiction; our experts are here to help.
At Priory, we offer world-class treatment for all types of substance addictions (such as drug addiction and alcoholism) as well as behavioural addictions (including shopping, internet and gambling addictions).
Our expert care teams are dedicated to placing you at the centre of your addiction treatment programme, helping you to get back on track. In addition, we understand that addiction doesn’t just affect the individual; it can place significant emotional, mental and even physical strain on their family, friends and loved ones. That’s why Priory also emphasises the importance of involving families in the treatment journey, offering support and guidance to help rebuild relationships and create a strong network for recovery.
If you’re worried about a loved one who may be struggling with addiction, you can contact us for support and guidance. Our team is here to talk you through the process, explain the steps involved and help you understand how we can assist. With your loved one’s consent, you can be actively involved in the enquiry journey on their behalf, ensuring they receive the care and support they need to begin their recovery.
Our comprehensive support programme includes a wide range of services to support your recovery journey:
Depending on the severity and type of your addiction, we can deliver treatment in different formats as appropriate. These include:
At Priory, we provide comprehensive and evidence-based treatment programmes for a wide range of addictions, including alcohol and drug addiction, as well as behavioural addictions such as gambling, porn shopping and gaming. Tailored to meet each person's unique needs, our world-class rehabilitation services encompass medical detox, diverse therapeutic approaches and robust aftercare, delivered by an expert multidisciplinary team.
From the initial free addiction assessment to our inpatient, day care, outpatient and online therapy options, we ensure a seamless and compassionate care pathway. Our holistic approach focuses on the physical, mental and social aspects of recovery, within environments designed for comfort and wellbeing.
We pride ourselves on delivering confidential and effective addiction treatment, supported by the expertise and continuous professional development of our dedicated specialists.
We provide medically assisted detox programmes for both alcohol and drug addictions, in a safe and secure environment. Our detox process involves gradually removing the addictive substances from your system, often using controlled prescription medication to help manage withdrawal symptoms.
With 24-hour medical and nursing support, our expert teams ensure your comfort and safety throughout the detox process, providing compassionate care and guidance to help you build a strong foundation for long-term recovery. The process typically takes 7 to 10 days and follows National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, with tailored care to meet your individual needs.
Our holistic approach prioritises your comfort and wellbeing, offering round-the-clock support and the opportunity to begin therapy as soon as you’re physically stable. Following detox, our comprehensive addiction treatment and free 12-month aftercare programme provide ongoing support to help you maintain long-term recovery. With clinics nationwide, Priory offers convenient access to expert detox and rehabilitation care.
Accessing help for addiction is a straightforward process.
Before your assessment, we’ll need you to confirm your GP's contact details and agree for us to share information with them, where appropriate. While a GP referral is preferred, it isn't always necessary.
If you’re intending to fund your treatment with private medical insurance (PMI), you may need to check with your insurer if a GP referral is required.
If you progress to inpatient treatment following your assessment, when you first come into hospital you will:
Admissions can happen immediately if beds are available.
Inpatient treatment, also called residential treatment, involves staying at the hospital throughout your treatment programme. It provides the highest level of support, with 24-hour care, structured routines, and a safe environment away from daily triggers.
For addiction inpatients, treatment usually includes a 28-day hospital stay, which includes a medically assisted detox for alcohol and drug addictions, if this is needed.. However, we are able to consider flexible treatment lengths, including 7, 14 and 21-day options, depending on your needs and circumstances.
Day care offers structured therapy sessions at our Priory sites, available for a set number of full or half-days each week. It provides regular support for people who don’t need 24-hour care but would benefit from an ongoing treatment routine. Day care can also be an effective step-down option for people who have completed an inpatient treatment programme.
Outpatient treatment involves attending weekly therapy sessions at one of our Priory sites. With daytime, evening and weekend options available, outpatient therapy is designed to fit around your work or personal commitments. This form of treatment is suitable for people who would benefit from ongoing support for their addiction, but who don’t need intensive day care or inpatient services. However, outpatient treatment isn’t suitable for people who are still using substances, as detox can’t be delivered on an outpatient basis.
Online therapy for addiction provides a flexible and accessible way to receive professional support from the comfort of your own home. Delivered through a secure video platform, it allows people to engage in therapy sessions with one of our qualified addiction specialists, following a structured treatment plan that’s tailored to their needs. Online therapy can be an effective option for people who are stepping down from more intensive support, such as inpatient treatment or day care, and who want ongoing support to maintain their recovery. Online therapy is also beneficial for people who have geographical, time or mobility constraints, or those who feel more comfortable accessing help in a familiar environment.

Addiction often takes a significant toll on your overall quality of life, affecting your physical health, mental wellbeing and relationships. It can strain personal connections, lead to conflicts with loved ones, and make it challenging to maintain professional responsibilities or daily routines. You may find yourself struggling to manage work or other obligations, and the effects can ripple through every aspect of your life.
Common signs that you may be struggling with an addiction include secretive or dishonest behaviour, withdrawing from responsibilities, avoiding social interactions and experiencing frequent mood swings. You might also notice low self-esteem and self-worth, disrupted sleep patterns and becoming more prone to illnesses due to a weakened immune system.
Cravings are another key symptom of addiction, where you feel an overwhelming urge to use a substance or engage in a behaviour, despite knowing the harm it causes. You may also find it increasingly difficult to control your addictive behaviours, leading to feelings of frustration or guilt. Other signs include neglecting personal hygiene or appearance, experiencing financial difficulties due to spending on the addiction, and using substances or engaging in behaviours as a way to cope with stress, anxiety or other emotions.
During the free addiction assessment with one of our addiction specialists, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your addictive behaviours and the unique challenges you’re facing, and ask any questions about Priory’s treatment options. Assessments are often delivered remotely, although we can arrange for this to be face-to-face if you’d prefer.
When you’re having your initial discussion, your Priory expert will give you information about our admissions process, as well as explaining the confidentiality and safeguarding processes we uphold.
During private rehab at Priory, you’ll benefit from a completely confidential service, quick admission, tailored treatment delivered by experts, as well as high-end facilities and luxury surroundings. We’re dedicated to providing you with the privacy you need to make a full and sustainable recovery.
Priory treatment programmes are confidential, except in circumstances where we believe you may pose a risk to yourself or others.
We offer free addiction aftercare for 12 months to everyone who has completed our 28-day addiction treatment programme. Aftercare consists of ongoing access to support and therapy groups, family support, help with your continuing care plan and alumni events where you can meet with other recovering addicts.
Private rehab at Priory is available through self-funding or PMI.
The cost of treatment at Priory varies depending on a variety of different factors, including how long you’ll stay with us, the type of treatment you need and the location of the centre you’re treated at. Our referrals team can explain all of this to you during your initial call with us.
At Priory, we recognise the vital role families play in the recovery process, which is why family therapy and support are integral to our treatment plans. Addiction often affects not just the individual, but their entire support network, and our aim is to help rebuild and strengthen these relationships as part of the journey to lasting recovery.
Family therapy provides a safe and supportive space for loved ones to come together, learn about addiction, and better understand the behaviours associated with it. These sessions offer an opportunity to explore the root causes of addiction, address and resolve underlying issues, and acknowledge the feelings of everyone involved. By fostering open communication, families can work towards healing emotional wounds, rebuilding trust, and developing practical strategies for supporting recovery and maintaining healthy relationships beyond treatment.
This collaborative approach helps to create a stronger foundation for long-term success, ensuring that individuals and their families feel equipped to move forward with confidence and hope.
We are a registered and approved provider for all of the UK's leading private medical insurers. All of the addiction services that we offer at Priory can be funded through private medical insurance. This includes:
All clients will have access to our highly skilled and accredited clinicians, many of whom are published experts in their fields of treatment. Whatever your requirements, we're committed to working with you to get your life back on track.
